City Hotel Nieuw Minerva

City Hotel Nieuw Minerva is established in a number of 16th-century canal-side buildings along Oude Rijn in the heart of Leiden. The hotel is between the two main Leiden shopping streets and is close to cultural entertainment venues, the university, museums, restaurants and cafés. Central Station is within walking distance. The hotel has its own restaurant and facilities for meetings, parties and festivities.

The hotel started out as a café in an old warehouse in 1945 and has over the years extended into six canal-side buildings, transforming them into a hotel with 39 unique rooms with a traditional Dutch atmosphere, including 11 thematic rooms. In 1830 one of these canal-side buildings used to be the home of J.R. Thorbecke, liberal statesman and founder of the Dutch parliamentary democracy.

There is a selection of romantically or classically decorated rooms and rooms in Art Deco style. All rooms have a shower or bath. The hotel also has one room with an extra-long bed. Characteristic of Leiden, the Rembrandt room has a genuine box-bed and painting accessories. The distinguished ‘Deftige’ room boasts a bed that belonged to Louis Napoléon Bonaparte, the first king of the Netherlands. Room 30 is a copy of the guest room of the famous Leiden folk singer Zangeres Zonder Naam, which still has its original decorations. There is a Delft Blue room, a Hunting room and a very special bridal suite. The rooms on the front side have a gorgeous view over the river Oude Rijn.

A traditional breakfast buffet is served in the morning. Guests can enjoy lunch or dinner in the restaurant, which serves typical Dutch specialties such as deep-fried bitterballen or steak frites. The bar is a perfect place for guests to get their snacks and beverages.

The hotel has two multi-functional rooms for a maximum of 50 people, which are suitable for business gatherings, meetings, training courses, presentations or “just” discussions, as well as for parties and festivities. The meeting rooms are classically decorated and have natural daylight.

Because the hotel is situated right in the city centre of Leiden, there are excellent options to combine a meeting with a city walk, a boat ride or visit to a museum.

In close proximity to the hotel, there are several options for parking (paid parking, a day pass costs between €12 and €14). There is a canal-side landing stage for boats right in front of the hotel.
