Mayflower400 partner destinations:
This nationally-touring exhibition will be at the Guildhall in the heart of the City of London from 23 July until 5 September, 2021, to mark 400 years since the Mayflower voyage.
Wampum belts are stories of communities and culture, and this unique display will feature work and materials from Native American artists and the British Museum.
Its centrepiece is a newly-crafted wampum belt created by the Wampanoag people of the Mashpee and Aquinnah nations.
The aim is to unite contemporary indigenous artists and educators in the USA with museums and historic collections in Britain.
Linda Coombs and Paula Peters
Together, they will explore the history, art and culture of the Native Americans who met the passengers of the Mayflower when they arrived in North America.
Wampanoag artists share their story through images, ideas and wampum - the sacred shells of Native America.
The exhibition will also visit The Box, Plymouth, from 1 May to 11 July 2021.
'Wampum: Stories from the Shells of Native America' is presented by The Box, Plymouth, and supported by Arts Council England as part of Mayflower 400.
